Overview:
Our Emergency Department Crisis Psychiatry Nurse plays a pivotal role in the ED Crisis, a 6-bed locked unit situated within the Emergency Department.
This specialized unit is dedicated to assessing and providing emergency psychiatric care to patients across the entire age spectrum.
As an integral member of our team, you will be at the forefront of delivering thorough psychiatric evaluations, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of mental status, cognition, mood, safety, and substance abuse.

Responsibilities:
Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations:
Conduct thorough assessments of patients, considering mental status, cognition, mood, safety, and substance abuse.
Collect collateral information to enhance the understanding of the patient's situation.
Evaluate the patient's ability to safely return to the community.
Multi-Disciplinary Team Collaboration:
Work closely with Psychiatrists, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses, and Psychiatric Technicians to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to patient care.
Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to treatment planning discussions.
Patient Safety:
Prioritize safety in the fast-paced ED Crisis setting, implementing appropriate measures to address immediate concerns.
Collaborate with the team to develop and implement safety plans tailored to each patient's needs.
Discharge Planning:
Develop and implement discharge plans that may include referrals to outpatient treatment, admission to adult or geriatric inpatient units, or other suitable inpatient settings.
Collaborate with community resources to ensure continuity of care for patients transitioning back to the community.
QualificationsEDUCATIONGraduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
EXPERIENCEPsych RN experience is required.
ED Psych RN experience preferred.
Registered Nurse is the foundational job description for all RNs.
All RNs are encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical advancement program.
LICENSURELicensed and a currently registered nurse in the State of Connecticut.
Clinical specialty certification highly encouraged.
SPECIAL SKILLSRegistered Nurse is the foundational job description for all RNs.
All RNs are encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical advancement program.
PHYSICAL DEMANDRequires prolonged standing; walking; use of sight, hearing, and touch.
May be exposed to infectious diseases.
Will be exposed to physical, mental and emotional illness as well as end of life conditions and death.
Moderate stress and risk of injury from patient care.
Standing/walking for more than half of the day.
Frequently bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting and lifting.
Must be able to assist pushing/pulling/lifting patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds.
